The Digits will admit he only drafted TheShawn Stevenson because he's a really likeable guy. He doesn't do much on the court, but he's very funny and he generally makes the sports section more interesting. As the season goes on, however, his already limited production is likely to get eaten into by the emergence of Nick Young and the return of Gilberte Arenas (or supposed return; your correspondent is not completely convinced the artist formerly known as Agent Zero will return in any meaningful way this season). Swept up by the spirit of the times, the Digits decided it was time for a change.
Vlad the Rod is a known quantity; known mainly as a guy that hangs out near the top of the free agent pool like that piece of toilet paper in your anus hair until some sucker like the Digits picks him up again, believing that his uneven production and 2.5 fouls/game are the price one has to pay for not stocking up on three-point shooting during the draft.
Analysis: Probably not a huge improvement, but the VladRad isn't a huge downer in any category either. True, his FG pct isn't great, but then again he doesn't take that many shots. And he seems to be getting some decent minutes this year.

ReplyDeleteI think this is a great move. For some reason I think Vladdy Rock-manny is gonna have a career year. All the news out of LA is about how Odom and Tareesa are happy coming off the bench which the pundits want to attribute to good chemistry and knowing their roles. But I'm thinking it sounds like apathy. For the first time in his career Vladdie's great big whiney cry-baby-ness may actually win him more court time since those other guys don't want it.
I love that Josh manages his team with a will to win, but is still able to be sentimental about his guys. That, I think, is why they play so well for him.
Speaking of sentimental, Linus, if you're listening, you better go grab the great white avalanche before he totally blows up. or falls down, or whatever it is that avalanches do.
