It's 'Amir'acle he was owned at all...

Spoonful drop Amir johnson, re-acquire C.Landry

Sometimes it takes dropping a player to know how much you love them. Even though it feels a bit odd to drop ones 17th round draft pick for ones 19th, especially when the former is starting and the latter is not, higher ups in the Spoonful front office report that it's already a pleasure to have Amir out of their 'hair'.

Amir Johnson, like co-overhyped Spoonful/Piston Rodney Stuckey, got rave reviews in the pre-season; he was touted as a supposed 'sleeper'-type source of rebs and blocks by many so-called 'experts' on such things. However, foul trouble and the crowded Pistons frontcourt have conspired to limit Amir to fewer than 19 MPG.  6/5 with only 1 BPG and 3.5 PF/G isn't helping the Spoonful or the Pistons, and Amir's losing time Kwame Brown, of all people. He'll likely put it together to some degree and end up on a roster in a few months. Fun fact: Amir was the last high school player drafted in the NBA, this is actually his 4th season.

Carl Landry was discussed here - not much has changed, except that he went out and scored 20 the day after he was dropped, and has avoided foul trouble for two straight games. That will likely change when facing Amare and T-Dunc the rest of this week; we'll see if he gets dropped again.

Judgment: The Spoonful lose some BLK and maybe STL, gain points and fouls (in a good way), and probably stay even in rebounds. No great shakes here, but Landry should have more short-term upside due to his situation and strong recent play.

  1. This is tough. Amir should be better than he's been. But who wants to wait. I'm sitting on several guys (tangled up in my hair) that oughta be on waivers. The problem is that as good as Landry is that Houston team is too deep. They're like the Blazers: 10 guys who are almost awesome. And Battier's coming back some day.

But love makes us do crazy things.

BTW, did you read my comment about Bargnani? I'm quite proud of it.

  2. 'losing time to Kwame' are four words you never want to hear about a player you own. The Pistons are pretty deep too (Maxiell, Kwame, and McDyess if he goes back there, and of course Herrmann), plus guys like Afflalo and Will Bynum that I know nothing about, but who get minutes. I almost dropped Stuckey yesterday, but I'll give him a couple more games (AI is such a ballhog, though, it may be hopeless). The only good thing about Amir right now is that he's not getting enough minutes to DISQ.

I'm hoping Landry can give me 10/8 or so; I need a couple of Millsap types on my team.

As I said in that thread, I'm waiting for your translation of 'Belinelli'

  3. Is Bassy Telf-Telf hurt? Only 15 minutes in an OT game?

  4. Belinelli means "continually bleating". Literally: in (nella/nello) + continual bleatings (beli).

I'm not even kidding either. You can look it up.

    Give me a hard one.

Nice night for Beno, BTW. But isn't he a point guard?

  5. Oh hush up about Bassy bassy telf telf! You are ruining my next post!

    Oh well.

Check out who played out the end of that game. It's the squad who should be starting. Kevin Manboobs and the bad Brewer didn't play much either. Instead Foye, Gomes, and McCants all played over 30 minutes. I think they went small-Mike Miller must've slid over to forward, since without Baby Al, Biendrins is the only Big Warrior. Also, Minnesota is just terrible this year. They gotta do something different.

  6. What about 'Beno Udrih'? I'm not sure how your Slovenian is?

Or, for that matter, what about 'Mareese Speights'? Isn't he like your boyfriend now?
