Moustache rides for free

my$hkin drops Dooling, picks up Morrison

That was quick! We discussed the Dooling pickup here.

Adam Morrison, #3 overall pick in 2006, will likely soon take his place on the short list of NBA draft busts. He averaged 12/4 his rookie year, which doesn't sound bad, but that was in 30MPG. He shot a woeful 37% from the field, which is not good for a 'scorer'. He contributed virtually nothing in BLK, OREB, STL, or AST and played no defense. The basic problem is that he's just too slow - and thus can't play D or create his own shot. Then he missed all of 2007 with a torn ACL, which can't help. He does have a bit of a chance to redeem himself with J-Rich out for a little while. He's played extensive minutes in the 2 games, and put up 15 and 16 points, with 5 3s (and, predictably, nothing else). Nonetheless, Charlotte is offensively challenged, and if the 'stache can shoot well, he'll certainly be given the opportunity to produce.

Judgment: We think this is an upgrade over Dooling in upside and opportunity. They both are basically scorers and nothing besides, but we think A-Morr will contribute more in the short term.

It's not easy being Keyon Dooling

My$hkin drops Green for Dooling

We discussed Gerald Green here; he started tonight for Jason Terry, but only played 14 unimpressive minutes. His role going forward is still unclear, though he certainly turned heads with his performances in J-How's absence.

Now Green has been dropped for the redoubtable Keyon Dooling, who competently started three games at PG for the Nets in Devin Harris's absence. Harris of course returned last night, scoring 30 points, but Dooling still got 25 minutes, scoring 10 points (though doing little else). Harris is still not 100%, so a gamble on Dooling here is not foolish, but he's not much of a playa, even with a lot of mintues. Mostly empty points, a few 3s, and 3-5 AST if running the point. He has no extra 'upside' to get excited about, and might be called 'a poor man's DeShawn Stevenson', without the excellent defense.

Judgment: We would have hung onto Green and his upside for a few more games, or perhaps picked up someone who might contribute in interesting categories. Dooling's low-neg, and will score a bit, but how much is that really going to help?
