McCants Hoot

Thenopp drops McCants, picks up Mike Conley Jr.

The 2004-5 UNC Tarheels won the NCAA tournament, and had 4 of its players selected in the first round of the NBA draft. All 4 have thus far been disappointing (Marvin Williams #2, Felton #5, May #13, McCants #14). McCants missed a great deal of time due to injury but is finally healthy. However, he has not shown himself to be 'good'. He's averaging only 18 mpg, shooting 37%, with 10 PPG/1.3 RPG/1.3 APG, and that's been decreasing of late. In his last three games he's only gotten 10 minutes and 6 points per. Moreover, he's suffering from back spasms, and did not play tonight. He too, is something of a poet.

Well, we were wrong; we thought Aaron Brooks would be the first '3-Team' player this season, but it is instead highly touted Mike Conley Jr. Drafted by Les Digits, then waived, picked up by the Later Hosens, then dropped, and now on thenopp's roster. We confess we still don't see the appeal, though his production has increased ever so slightly in the last few games.

Judgment: We're no fans of Conley, but he certainly provides more than an injured McCants. Even when Conley isn't producing on offense, he contributes in REBs and ASTs, which McCants does not. A good move for thenopp.

Bust-Fest!

Conley jr. dropped for Kwame Brown

We have nothing more to say about Mike Conley Jr..

Cake-Throwing Kwame Brown, apparently, sucks. Indeed, he may be the biggest draft bust in recent memory, having been picked #1 overall in 2001. He's been so bad for so long, it's hard to realize just how bad he is. It's also remarkable that he's only 26(!). He shoots under 50% from the line. He only once even managed 10PPG, back in 2003-4. He's not much of a shotblocker or a good rebounder (5PG for his career). However, he did look good last night, double-doubling in his first start as the Piston's C. Is it possible he'll settle into a somewhat useful late-career mediocrity, like fellow #1's Joe Smith and the Kandi-man? The Hosen are hoping so.

Judgment: the Hosen are starved for a frontcourt, and Kwame might be helpful for a while. Certainly Conley is no loss. Our only concern is that we'll have to write another post when Conley is dropped in a week or so.

Conley Jr. claimed off waivers...but why?

Hosen drop C.J.Watson, claim Conley

The Hosen originally picked up C.J.Watson (who's starting at PG in GS until ME returns), dropping Kyle Lowry, a move discussed here, and have now dropped Watson in favor of Mike Conley Jr. To recap the pedigree of this move: the Hosen dropped Speights for Rasho, Rasho for Lowry, Lowry for Watson, and now Watson for Conley. Now that's a lot of turnovers! Watson's been pretty good lately - he's still starting, and his last two games have been 17/6/1 and 8/4/4 - not super consistent, but sheet-filling, in one way or another.

We've looked at Conley before, too, as Les Digits recently placed him on waivers to acquire Larry Hughes. The 4th overall pick in the 2007 NBA draft is averaging 5.5/3.5/3.8, can't shoot, can't finish, and has been criticized for laziness, softness, and timidity. Some say he has upside - we say we'd rather have Lowry, Watson, or Rasho.

Judgment: We think this is an error on the Hosen's part, though by no means a costly one. Watson is playing well and Conley simply isn't, and there's no reason to think that's on the verge of turning around.

Digits Feeling Bullish

After much soul-searching, the Digits were forced to drop favorite Mike Conley. Man, he was really good in college. That one year he played. With Greg Oden. Okay, maybe the Digits were too ready to be impressed, and as the Hosens have recently noted, the Digits have a tendency to become attached to their players. But until next year's draft, the Digits bid Mr. Conley (and his 0-for-6 shooting) good-bye.

Rumor has it Larry Hughes will be back with the Bulls on Thursday and that the Negromancer plans to have him start sometime soon thereafter. Seems like Mr. Hughes should be in for some scoring opportunities as long as DRose continues to throw himself mercilessly at the basket. The move does violate the 'Don't have more than 2 players on the same team' rule (which the Digits would be in violation of already if not for Josh Smith and Marvin Williams playing musical chairs on the injured list), so anyone interested in, say, Luollapolooza should feel free to send their offers to the Digits trade hotline.

Note: Yes, Mr. Hughes does appear to be wearing a "I Love Strippers" t-shirt.
